A CO Armagh Orange lodge is “on the ball” after playing a key role in the opening of a new sports facility.
Members of Kilcluney LOL 132 in Markethill obtained capital funding to provide a third generation synthetic pitch for recreational use by the local community.
Last March, the lodge was one of the first organisations based in an Orange hall to successfully secure such funding, after months of hard work by brethren.
The new sporting facility – officially opened last month – will be used extensively by local schools, youth groups and other similar organisations as well as sports clubs and associations.
Kilcluney lodge secured almost £200,000 from Sport Northern Ireland for the project, under the Sport Matters Community Capital Programme.
Lodge spokesman Bryan Hunter said brethren were delighted to be able to provide a facility that would benefit everyone living in the locality.
He said: “This is a community facility open to everyone from whatever sporting background, or none.
“It’s the first major community outdoor sports facility to open in Markethill in around 25 years.”
